CURE YOUR STUTTERING

SELF-THERAPY FOR STUTTERERS

Stuttering is not a symptom of something but is a behavior that can be modified. As a stutterer you need to find ways and means for having a richer life through more fluent speech. The first thing you must do is to admit to yourself that you need to change, that you really want to do about the way you presently talk. Don’t sit around waiting for the right time for an inspiration to come to you- you must go for it.

Original cause of stuttering

It may have resulted from an interaction of environmental and Hereditary factors. Whatever the cause, you need to be concerned about what you are doing now that perpetuates and maintains your difficulty.

Experimental therapy procedures

1. You are to calmly stretch out and slide through all your words as you speak, which includes every vowel and consonant.
2. Your vocal cords should vibrate in a low steady tone.
3. It includes continuity of sound and airflow with no break, repetitions in your voice.
4. It gives you relief thus don’t hesitate to talk. Tell the people that you are working on your stuttering.

Ground Rule No. 1:

There is nothing to be gained by force. The more you try to force trouble-free speech, the worse your stuttering will be.
· Quit fighting yourself. Substitute easier ways of stuttering for your abnormal and frustating habits.
· Sliding into your words with light, loose movements of your tongue, lips and jaw.
· Practice by reading aloud when alone for atleast 10 minutes a day while working on this rule.
· Mechanism of speech is too complicated to function properly when force is applied.
So if you can comply with this first rule and let yourself stutter easily your severity will be lessened.

Ground Rule No. 2:

Make a habit of always talking slowly and deliberately whether you stutter or not. There are two reasons for recommending above rule.
· It includes a manner of talking which is generally respected and admired.
· It results in more varied, relaxed manner of speaking which is more respective to therapy controlled procedures.
· Pause – there is no hurry.
When you are working on these rules you might make a record of your progress in your book.

Ground Rule No. 3:

Stutter openly and do not try to hide the face that you are a stutterer.
· There is no advantage in pretending that you are a normal speaker.
· Fear and tension are your worst enemies. Training in desensitization will help get rid of them.
· Voluntary Stuttering- It is suggested that occasionally you stutter voluntarily.
· Start when you are alone by reading aloud and calmly making easy repetitions and prolongations.

Ground Rule No. 4:

Determine to eliminate or modify any abnormal movements or habits.
· This refers to unnecessary mannerisms which may characterize the particular pattern of your stuttering.

Ground Rule No. 5:

Do your best to stop all avoidance, postponement or subtitution habits.
· Non-avoidance attitude will give the stutterer more relief than any other therapy procedures.
· Postponements may include stalling devices such as clearing the throat, swallowing, coughing blowing the nose, putting in unnecessary words.
· Substitutions include using synonyms, easy words or other phrases.

Ground Rule No. 6:

Maintaining eye contact.
· Establish eye contact before you begin to speak and continue to do so in a natural way.
· Start by looking at yourself in the mirror when alone and saying an easy block.
· Make some phone calls looking at yourself in the mirror while you are having real blocks.

Ground Rule No. 7:

Try to find out what your muscles of speech are going when you stutter.
· Analysing your blocks.
· Use a mirror to check your stutter.
· Use a tape-recorder to help check.

You can change your old stuttering response into a more appropriate one. There is no need for you to spend the rest of your life struggling with blocks and making yourself miserable. Have faith in your ability to conquer your problem.

hey, i've read this article out of curiosity and found that those probs addressed here such as stuttering accompanied by anxiety and tension happen to me when I speak another language. When I speak my own language, I dont stutter at all or just stutter about 3%. However when I speak English with my friends, I tend to stutter. I've tried to reduce my anxiety and tension but to no avail. Do you guys have any good advice for em?

We only can discuss here..nothing more.It is a problem which require ur acceptance first..then we can discuss how to reduce...

Being an X-stutter i wud suggest to follow all these steps but frankly speaking thats require loz of pain and dedication while performing

"I was a severe stuuter" or wat doesnt matter to anybody as the pain is same no matter how serious it is..
anyways guys all the best and have a great stutter free life ahead
